I was always fascinated by plants and inspired to design a functional sculpture. With plant pots, we can usually only see half of the story with the stems extending and off shooting deep beneath the surface of the soil. While the Root Vase does not divulge in the underground activity of the plant, it does celebrate the beauty and the mystery with its own intricate sculptural expression. The core of the flower pot takes the elegant tapering shape, manufactured in rough concrete. As concrete can absorb a certain amount of water, the idea is that it will keep the soil moist and provide the necessary moisture for the plant to grow. A smooth Corian material branches out and extends to create a tripod base, elevating the inner concrete urn.
